It was established in 1856 and organized in 1866.

It was named after Nebraska territorial governor Alvin Saunders. He was a U.S. Senator from Nebraska in the United States.

Then again, to obtain a record copy, residents must also pay a fee. First copies of birth records cost $17. Saunders County Death records cost $16 per first copy. Marriage certificates in Saunders County cost $16 for the first copy.

NOTE - Saunders County has several rules that must be followed when it comes to obtaining records. The office has opening times of 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Those looking to request reports must also bring some form of photo identification. Both driver's licenses and state IDs would suffice. Only public record applications put in writing will be accepted in Saunders County.
