It was formed in 1855.
It was named for General Lewis Cass. He was an American military officer, politician, and statesman.

Records in Cass County do come with a charge. First copies of birth records cost $17. First copies of death records cost $16. Cass County marriage records cost $16 per first copy.
NOTE - There are a variety of rules that must be followed in order for Cass County residents to obtain records. The office has opening times of 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m from Monday to Friday. A photo ID is needed to get hold of records in Cass County. Photo ID could be a driver's license or state ID. Only public record applications put in writing will be accepted in Cass County.
