It was named either M. C. Keith of North Platte, whose grandson Keith Neville became Nebraska's 18th governor in 1917 or John Keith, also of North Platte.

Then again, to obtain a record copy, residents must also pay a fee. First copies of birth records cost $17. Death certificates in Keith County will set a person back $16 for a first copy. Marriage records in Keith County cost $16 for the first copy.
NOTE - There are a number of rules that must be followed in order for Keith County requesters to obtain records.
